History of World of Miniatures, by Adrian Towner ( Proprietor ) It all started around 1968, at the age of 12 with my interest in model making. I was soon building air fix kits and small models. Then moving on to model railways, joining a local model railway club. Visiting model railway exhibitions I noticed the lack of lineside models, so I decided to travel the exhibition circuit with my own range of small dioramas. However after a number of years came a decline in the railway hobby as videos and computer games became the latest boys toys. Time to try something new. How about authentic fairground & circus models? Remembering Billy Smarts circus when it visited Guildford with it's music, smells of sawdust and candy floss as you walked towards the big top on a Sunday afternoon. Then after the performance staying behind to watch the pull-down and movement of transport, Macks, Royal Windsor and of course Lord Morrison. So with permission, the Billy Smarts collection was started. The orders were soon coming in from collectors around the world. World of Miniatures soon became well known for it's highly detailed and authentic models, making the company the success it is today with many more collections now added. |
